Happy anniversary, New Jersey.

Adult-use cannabis was available for purchase across the state as of April 21, 2022. This month marks the one-year anniversary for New Jersey. We owe it to ourselves to ask – what happened during that first year? Wait - while we’re doing that, we can consider all the years. The conclusions we reach about cannabis are always shaped by not just what’s in front of us, but what we read last year, heard 10 years ago, watched 20 years ago, saw 50 years ago. Please keep that in mind when you check out this reflection piece, shared on NJ Spotlight News.

A Bit Relevant, a Bit Random

A fleeting, floating thought: When an optometrist administers an eye test, with those boards that have the big E at the top, do they even have to look or is it all memorized?

If you’ve ever wondered about where the FDA stands on cannabis, you can read this 2/24/23 statement. (For those who support cannabis as a wellness substance, it’s a frustrating read at times.)

Cannabis as a Treatment

There’s a lot out there to support the position of cannabis being an effective treatment for many for a variety of conditions (it’s impossible and irresponsible to say all – each plant is different and so is each human body using it, which is highly variable), but it’s still perceived as a dangerous substance with no medicinal value for many, including our federal government. This narrative continues on, but access to accurate information is what will change it.

Trusted Information Sources

It’s commonly known in the advertising and sales worlds that word-of-mouth is an extremely effective marketing strategy. We like making informed decisions and feel more confident when we can trust the perspective that is contributing to our choice. Our Cannabis Community Conversation is based on the principle of being more open to receiving information if the source and the source’s motivation connect are easy-to-understand and authentic. The more comfortable and confident we are about any information source, the easier it is to connect and engage.
